The debate with some members of the EPP has not harmed the government parties but rather helped to increase the popularity of Fidesz-KDNP that would now get 56 percent if elections were held on Sunday, shows a public opinion poll conducted by Nézőpont Intézet on behalf of Magyar Nemzet newspaper.
Social support for government parties stands at 56 percent among active voters, which means an increase of two percentage points compared to February. Fidesz-KDNP may have the strongest and most popular party alliance in Europe as a result of growth in popularity. This also means that if European Parliamentary elections were held on Sunday, the government parties’ EP list would get 14 mandates. The expanding circle of sympathisers also proves that the EPP debate has not had a negative impact on the government parties but in fact activated their supporters. Compared to the Hungarian parliamentary elections, Fidesz-KDNP results would improve by 9 percentage points in May.
