The withdrawal of Falus did not change the competition in Budapest

Lajos Bokros could address solely the former voters of Ferenc Falus, but not the left-wing uncertain voters – turns out from the public opinion poll of Nézőpont Intézet, prepared between 6-8 October 2014, consulting 500 persons by phone on a representative sample in Budapest. The outcome of the competition of candidates of mayor of Budapest seems unambiguous, István Tarlós may repeat with a stable majority this Sunday.

On the potential voter basis closest to the expected final result the support currently is as follows: István Tarlós 52 percent, Lajos Bokros 25 percent, Gábor Staudt and Antal Csárdi 6-6 percent, respectively, and Zoltán Bodnár 1 percent. Within the potential voter basis the uncertain voters with left-wing preference amount to another 10 percent. On the basis of this it seems that Lajos Bokros could address solely the former voters of Ferenc Falus, but not the left-wing uncertain voters. Thus, Bokros would have a chance to come close to the 2010 result of former socialist candidate of mayor of Budapest Csaba Horváth only if the left-wing uncertain voters support him nevertheless in the end. However, the latter voter group is currently divided in connection with the support of the candidates of mayor of Budapest instead, and all this may have an effect on their actual participation at the election. That said, the outcome of the competition of candidates of mayor of Budapest seems unambiguous, István Tarlós may repeat with a stable majority this Sunday.
